Ostrava City Gate (Ostravská brána) – the residential building is situated in the very historical centre of the city. As can be deduced from the project’s name, a new unique apartment block is to be constructed in the location near the Kostelní Square where the original city gate used to stand, only 200 meters from the centrally located Masaryk Square.

Modernity and history hand in hand
Ostravská brána (City Gate) is a perfect example of an interesting modern architecture corresponding with the latest global trends and, at the same time, reflecting the history of the city. The development vision pursued by the Metrostav joint stock company and the architects of the renowned architect studio Kuba & Pilař took into account the urban disposition of the location at the early stage of the project. The City Gate housing project is a classic example of timeless housing which is not pretentious at all, but attracts attention by its innovative architecture. The principal advantage of the residential building is its location in the very heart of the city centre, i.e. its close proximity to services, transport, entertainment, as well as historical monuments. The strategic location of the building, only 200 m from the Masaryk Square, will be appreciated by active people desirous of living or running business in the city centre, preferring quality and originality and acknowledging modern trends not only in architecture but also as a life style.

Modern urban building – prospective place to live
The City Gate residential building offers 37 flats in disposition from two-bedroom to four-bedroom ones, and commercial premises intended for shops and establishments providing services. Most flats with floor area from 64 to 119sqm are situated on the 2nd to the 5th floor, with the ground floor and the upper ground-floor being reserved for commercial premises and technical equipment of the building. The project plans for a total of seven commercial units and an original two-storey café with an outdoor terrace. A resting zone, i.e. a relaxation area adjoining the building, will be created. The owners of the new apartments in the centre of Ostrava will surely appreciate the underground parking area provided in the building.

Timeless building with elegance
The City Gate project is certainly an innovative project, and in a certain sense, it is intended to be the first truly new and modern housing project to be constructed in the very heart of the city. The residential building has been conceived as a timeless elegant building of a very simple shape, made of durable materials. It has been designed in a so-called “urban style”, i.e. as a building without balconies, deep loggias and large glass surfaces. The only exception is the south-west façade with loggias directly facing the Kostelní Square. Its light curvature corresponds to the ground plan of the building, with the outreaching Kostelní street corner supported with a carrying bracket. A passage has been designed on the other side of the building. Both mentioned elements enable views form the Biskupská Street to the Kostelní Square and, on top of that, optically widen the Kostelní Street.

Building “at a crossroad”
The building consists of two principal parts which are completely separated, yet closely related. Thanks to them, the residential and commercial zones of the building are perfectly interconnected, with the passage being available not only to the house dwellers but also other inhabitants of the city of Ostrava. They will also be enabled to use the new walkway interconnecting the Kostelní Square and the riverside of the Ostravice river. The new housing project will thus form a certain central point never overseen by anyone walking from the city centre to the riverside of the Ostravice.
